G.I.D.C. Industrial Estate was established at Makarpura, Vadodara City in the mid 1960s. This gave rise to a number of small industries. Being small and new, these industries were facing numerous challenges. There was an urgent need to set up an industry body to collectively represent the interests of these new and budding entrepreneurs before the various authorities. Thus was born "Makarpura Industrial Estate Association" in the year 1969. Initially the office was in the building of Vadodara Municipal Corporation. As the saying goes "UNITY IS STRENGTH", and the Association's membership stood at 100 members. In 1976, the name was changed to "MAKARPURA INDUSTRIAL AREA ASSOCIATION" and few constitutional amendments were made to include Industrial Units situated outside Makarpura Industrial Estate.

As the Associationbecame more and more popular among trade andindustrial circles, other industries in and around the city also started taking keen interest in the activities, and it was again necessary to bring in some changes. In 1981, the name was changed to "VADODARA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY". Few changes had also been made in the constitution with an objective to spread the wings of VCCI at District Level.

Low key operations, emphasis on problem solving at the micro level as well as at macro level andservices to the members and the community was and continues to be the PRIME Motto of VCCI. Collective representations necessitated meeting of members, developing mutual relations for business and social aims. More entrepreneurs were interested in joining and the membership has since grown at a steady pace.

    3. Permanent Exhibition Centre :

The significance of industrial dxhinitions and trade fairs has now been recognized as an effective means for promoting products and services and thusenhancing the industry friendly image of the state. It has been observed that the State has been hosting a number of industrial exhibitions and trade fairs successfully during last several years. Successful attempts have also been made to organise such events to represent national as well as international companies / manufacturers. A perception is now emerging that a permanent compled offering comprehensive facilities for organising exhinitions, conventions, and allied amenities should be created to meet one of the emerging requirements of the industry and trae. Pragati maidan at New Delhi has proved to be a successful example at national level.

VCCI has demanded setting up of permanent building and infrastructure for holding exhibitions of various products and services in the state. Vadodara should bne the obvious choice for setting up the permanent exhinition centre since there are so many industrial areas in and around the city & the city has locational advantage and was well connected with Mumbai & Delhi.

    4. Finishing School :

The Finishing School would work as a "PLACEMENT CELL" for industry. It would work as a bridge between industry and aspirant job seekers. It would help the aspirants to prepare themselves for the needs of the industry and make themselves employable.

The primary objective is to fulfill the needs of providing ready manpower to the industry. To do this the Finishing School would :-

    • Generate and analyze needs of manpower from the industry.
    • Identify the special training required to be provided to the manpower before offering them to the industry for recruitment.
    • Identifying the requisite manpower from the data bank of students provided and short listing them as per industry requirements and then training them.
    • The training modles to be designed as per each specific industry need.
    • Ensuring that world class quality training is provided to the aspirants to enable industry to absorb them readily and straight away put them onto their designated work areas.
